Can I build a commercial app where each user brings their own Shotstack API key (BYOK)?
Can I build a commercial app where each user brings their own Shotstack API key (BYOK)?
Yes. A "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) pass-through model is permitted under our Terms of Service. In this model, each of your end users signs up for their own Shotstack account, generates their own API key, and enters it into your app. Your app calls the Shotstack API using each user's own credentials, and every user is billed directly as an individual Shotstack subscriber, not through you.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
Key security is on you: because your app receives and passes through your users' API credentials, your application is responsible for storing and handling those keys securely.
White Label Studio SDK: if you also want users to edit templates inside your app, our White Label Studio SDK license covers this BYOK use case too, provided the same key security and account management practices apply.
